<p>Renowned Community Health Center in Phoenix is seeking a Nutrition Education Specialist for their WIC Department. Indeal candidate will screen, certify and provide comprehensive nutrition assessments to participants for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, provides participant centered services according to federal guidelines, rules and regulations. </p><p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><ul><li>Determines WIC program eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.</li><li>Provides excellent customer service in person and/or telephones.</li><li>Explains program procedures, regulations, processes and timeframes to applicants and representatives.</li><li>Provides instructions for participants who are not in compliance with program procedures and regulations and brings participants into compliance.</li><li>Conducts interviews and accurately documents information on residency, income, and family situation in a computerized participant database.</li><li>Obtains, evaluates, and documents measurements of stature, weight, and hemoglobin</li><li>Conducts nutrition assessments, evaluates dietary intake patterns based on the dietary questionnaire</li><li>Provides participant centered nutrition education to participants individually or in groups according to age, category, health risks, and family needs</li><li>Assigns appropriate food package for eligible participants based on age, category, health risks and family needs</li><li>Conducts ongoing quality assurance in laboratory procedures.</li><li>Evaluates WIC applicants and participant&rsquo;s needs for health care, financial, and social assistance in order to make and document appropriate referrals.</li><li>Schedules and re-schedules participant appointments according to allowable time limits when needed</li><li>Prints food instruments to eligible WIC participants</li><li>Maintains security and inventory of food instrument supplies</li><li>Plans and participates in community outreach activities</li><li>Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as required</li></ul><ul><li>Performs Certification Specialist duties and other duties as required or assigned</li></ul><ul><li>Provide breastfeeding support and promote a culture of breastfeeding</li><li>Utilize the Getting to the Heart of the Matter style of emotion based nutrition counseling</li><li>Open and / or close the clinic as assigned</li><li>Submits appropriate documentation to supervisor when requested including but not limited to mileage reimbursement and time studies</li></ul><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>KNOWLEDGE OF:</strong></p><ul><li>WIC program requirements including the WIC nutrition assessment process</li><li>Principles of participant centered education</li><li>Principles of critical thinking</li><li>Behavioral change theories</li><li>Basic health care practices and techniques, human nutrition, normal nutrition issues for pregnancy, lactation, the postpartum period, infancy, and early childhood.</li><li>Acceptable anthropometric measurement practices, including normal growth in children and pregnancy</li><li>Data collection procedures</li><li>Available health and human services/resources within the community</li><li>General office practice and procedures</li><li>Basic arithmetic to accurately perform computations</li></ul><p><strong>SKILL IN:</strong></p><ul><li>Providing participant centered customer service</li><li>Eliciting information through motivational interviewing</li><li>Developing rapport and encouraging open communication with participants and caretakers</li><li>Organizing and synthesizing information to evaluate and prioritize the information appropriately</li><li>Communicating clearly and concisely to individuals and/or groups,, both orally and in writing</li><li>Analyzing participant information in order to determine nutrition education needs and formulate care plan</li><li>Applying pertinent rules and regulations required to conduct eligibility tasks</li><li>Time management</li><li>Facilitating nutrition counseling and accordance with Mountain Park Health Center policies, providing a high level of quality in personal attention and service to patients and visitors;</li><li>Reads and abides by Mountain Park Health Center policies and procedures. </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrates an understanding of facility organizational structure by utilization of appropriate channels of communication. Maintain consistent, timely communication regarding all facets of departmental activities with his/her co-workers, therefore, demonstrating good customer service skills with both external and internal customers.</li></ul><p><strong>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><ul><li>None</li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>A minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, associate non-nutrition or nutrition degree, non-nutrition Bachelors degree, with or without 12 credit hours of college level nutrition courses, and any combination of training, education, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
